INTRODUCTION : CT guided biopsy of pulmonary lesions may be complicated by
pneumothorax alveolar hemorrhage, hemoptysis or infection. The study treated
predictive factors for these complications.
MATERIAL AND METHODS : The study included CT guided biopsy of pulmonary
lesions in 165 patients who consulted the department of pulmonary disease of
Charles Nicolle hospital from February 2005 to April 2023 in a retrospective design.
All of biopsies were performed in the radiology department by the coaxial needle
technique. Predictive factors were divided into (1) factors related to the patient and
(2) factors related to the lesion.
RESULTS : Among 165 patients (155 male,10 female ; mean age 61 years ), 13 (8%)
biopsies were complicated by pneumothorax, we report 1 case of alveolar
hemorrhage and we didn’t report any case of hemoptysis or infection. In factors
related to the patient, COPD and pulmonary tuberculosis were found to be
significant with respectively p=0.001 and p=0.005 . In factors related to the lesion,
the size less than 7 cm seems to be significant p=0.013.
CONCLUSION : Pulmonary disease and small lesion less than 7cm are predictors
for complications in CT guided biopsy of pulmonary lesions.
