INTRODUCTION : Measuring Quality of Life (QOL) has become an increasingly
important dimension of assessing well-being and drug efficacy in asthamatic
patients.
OBJECTIVE : Investigate the association between QOL within a smathic patients
and disease control.
METHODS : We conducted a cross-sectional study on asthma-patients who
consulted our department from january 2023 to April 2023. Patients characteristics
(age, Tobacco consumption (TC) and BMI) were recorded . QOL was assessedusing
SF-12 questionnaire. As for asthma control, Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ)
was recorded for all study population. Spirometry was performed for all patients
with measurement of FEV1 and FVC.
RESULTS : In this study, means of age, BMI and TC were 46.3±17.043 years,
28.06±5.95 kg/m2 and 6.35±15.2, respectively. Means of FEV1%, FVC% and
FEV1/FVC were 87.46±18.82, 92±23.99 and 74.51±12, respectively. AS for the ACQ and
sf-12 indices, there means were 7.95±8.01and33.58±14.42. Also, results showed that
when ACQ increased QOL measured by SF-12 score decreased. In fact, ACQ was
negatively correlated with SF-12 with p<0.001 and r= -0.573.
CONCLUSION : As a result of the study, it was found that the QOL is importantly
affected by asthma control and that QOL improved when asthma was controlled.
